Software Engineer (Team Lead) · iOS & macOS Developer

Usama Yamaan

I build native apps for iPhone and Mac — and I ship them.

I build with Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit and AppKit, and many of those apps are live on the Mac App Store right now. Each one carried from an empty Xcode project through architecture, API integration and in-app purchases, to an approved listing and the updates that followed.

I'm a software engineer who builds native applications for Apple platforms, currently leading development as a Software Engineer (Team Lead) at Tricentric Labs. At AppLead I took apps from a first commit through to a live App Store listing — designing the architecture, building the interface in SwiftUI, UIKit and AppKit, wiring up REST and AI APIs, handling in-app purchases, and running the release itself in App Store Connect.

The work isn't only client-side. I've built OCR and PDF pipelines, real-time translation with speech-to-text and text-to-speech, background download queues, video and audio conversion, and LLM integrations. Before I specialised in Apple platforms I worked across the MERN stack and AI/ML, which is why I'm comfortable owning the API and backend half of a feature rather than waiting for someone else to define it.

What I care about is the last ten percent — the app that is actually approved, actually installed, and actually still being updated three versions later.

Live on the Mac App Store

A selection of the apps I've shipped that are on the store today — every one downloadable right now. Each was built natively for macOS and taken through App Store Connect: submission, review, release, and the updates that followed.

AI Assistant

Chat, Code & PDF

  • macOS 15+
  • Version 1.3
  • Shipping since Jun 2026

AI tools live scattered across a dozen browser tabs. This app collapses chat, a code studio, document analysis, research and web browsing into a single native Mac workspace so a piece of work never has to leave the window it started in.

My role

Built the macOS client end to end — the multi-workspace architecture, streaming LLM integration, the embedded browser, subscription handling, and the App Store release across three shipped versions.

  • AI Chat workspace for conversation and long-form generation
  • Code Studio that writes, explains and debugs code
  • Research Hub for gathering and summarising sources
  • Smart Documents for structured notes and reports
  • Built-in AI Browser with the workspace kept in context
  • Artifacts — generated interactive projects and web pages
  • Swift
  • AppKit
  • LLM APIs

CV Builder

ATS Templates

  • macOS 13+
  • Version 1.1
  • Shipping since Aug 2026

Most résumé builders are web apps that hold your document behind an account and hand back a flattened PDF. This one runs entirely on the Mac, works offline with no sign-up, and exports vector PDF with real selectable text — which is what applicant tracking systems can actually parse.

My role

Built the document engine and the editor: the live-preview layout with genuine page breaks, the templating system behind 42 designs, vector PDF export, autosave, and the subscription and lifetime purchase tiers.

  • 42 templates across Professional, ATS-Friendly, Modern, Executive, Creative and Minimal styles
  • Live preview with real page breaks and multi-page documents
  • Design switching that carries all content across untouched
  • Sections for experience, education, skills, languages, projects and references
  • Vector PDF export with selectable, machine-readable text
  • Autosaves every résumé variant; fully offline, no account

Upworkify

AI Proposal Writer

  • macOS 13+
  • Version 1.0
  • Shipping since Aug 2026

Freelancers who win work by applying to job posts run their whole pipeline across browser tabs, a notes app and a spreadsheet. Upworkify pulls proposal writing, lead tracking and billable hours into one Mac workspace — and connects to no freelance platform at all, so nothing depends on someone else's API.

My role

Built the macOS app: the proposal generation pipeline, the five-stage lead pipeline, and a multi-timer time logger that survives quitting the app mid-session.

  • Generates a proposal written around the specific job posting rather than a reusable template
  • Writes from the job alone when no background is supplied, instead of inventing experience
  • Proposal history saved automatically and reopenable at any time
  • Lead pipeline across five stages — Saved, Applied, Interview, Won, Lost — with budget, client and notes
  • Multiple concurrent timers with pause and resume; paused time never counts toward the total
  • A running timer is paused and saved on quit rather than lost
  • Swift

LabelFlow

Label Maker & Document Printer

  • macOS 12+
  • Version 1.0
  • Shipping since Aug 2026

Printing a label on a Mac usually means a printer-brand utility that only talks to one device, or a full design tool that's overkill. LabelFlow puts a real label designer and a general document printer in one native app that drives a wide range of wireless and thermal printers.

My role

Built the app for macOS — the canvas-based label designer, barcode and QR generation, the multi-format document printing pipeline, and the store release.

  • Label designer with templates, custom text, fonts, colours, icons and images
  • Barcode and QR code generation
  • Printing for PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and photos
  • Wireless and thermal printer support across Canon, Epson and Nimbot
  • Presets for shipping, address, product, price, barcode, storage and cable labels
  • Localised into 25 languages
  • Swift
  • AppKit

Chatbot

Ask AI Anything

  • macOS 14+
  • Version 1.4
  • Shipping since May 2026

Getting writing help, PDF summarising and voice conversation normally means paying for three separate AI subscriptions. This is one native Mac app with model switching, so the strengths of different models are available without leaving the workspace.

My role

Built the macOS app: the multi-model chat layer over the OpenAI API, voice conversation with speech input, the PDF summarisation pipeline, and four shipped update cycles since launch.

  • Switch between multiple AI models inside one conversation surface
  • Voice chat with speech input for hands-free use
  • Grammar checker and text humaniser
  • PDF summariser with document insights
  • Presentation and diagram generation
  • Writing assistant, résumé builder and research tools

Convertio

File Converter

  • macOS 14+
  • Version 1.3
  • Shipping since May 2026

Converting a HEIC or a MOV usually means uploading a personal file to somebody else's website. Convertio does video, image, audio and document conversion locally on the Mac with a drag-and-drop workflow.

My role

Built the conversion engine and the macOS interface — format handling across four media families, batch processing with ZIP output, and the conversion history store.

  • Video: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, FLV, WMV, M4V
  • Image: HEIC, HEIF, PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, BMP, SVG, AVIF
  • Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, AIFF
  • Documents: PDF, DOCX, DOC, RTF, TXT, EPUB

Browser Manager

All Browsers

  • macOS 13+
  • Version 1.1
  • Shipping since Jul 2026

Every link on a Mac opens in one default browser, which is wrong for anyone keeping work and personal browsing apart, or testing across engines. Browser Manager intercepts links system-wide and routes each one to the browser it belongs in.

My role

Built the menu bar app and the routing layer — system-wide link interception, per-app browser defaults, and a rules engine matching on domain, URL pattern and source application.

  • Intercepts links from any app — Mail, Slack, Messages, Notes — and picks the browser
  • Quick launch: paste a URL into the menu bar and choose where it opens
  • Per-app defaults, so work apps and personal apps open in different browsers
  • Rules matching on domain, URL pattern or source application, routing with no prompt
  • Supports Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Arc, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi, including profiles
  • Native menu bar app, keyboard-driven and always resident

08Education · Games

Kids Learning & Fun Games

Preschool ABC, Art & Play

  • macOS 14+
  • Version 1.2
  • Shipping since Jul 2026

Children's apps tend to be either flatly educational or games with nothing underneath them. This one teaches letters, numbers, shapes and memory, then hides the same skills inside four original arcade games — offline, with a parental gate in front of every purchase.

My role

Built the whole app: the custom drawing tools, four arcade mini-games with their own game loops, the star-based progression system, and a 32-language localisation including full right-to-left support.

  • ABC & 123 with voice audio and quizzes
  • Counting, shape matching and memory games across graded levels
  • Free drawing with brush, marker, pencil, spray and eraser, plus gallery and restore
  • Four original arcade games — Catch!, Bubble Pop, Splotch Says and Color Sort
  • Three-star progression with unlocking levels
  • Works fully offline; parental gate on all purchases
  • Swift

05What I can build

Bring me a product, or an app that already exists

Each of these maps to something already shipped — nothing here is aspirational.

Native iOS apps

Swift with UIKit and SwiftUI, built for the platform rather than wrapped from the web.

Native macOS apps

Swift and AppKit — many of them live on the Mac App Store today.

AI-powered features

LLM and OpenAI API integration: chat, code generation, document analysis, summarisation.

Document & media tooling

PDF editing and export, OCR, scanning, and video, image and audio conversion.

API & backend integration

REST integration from the app side, and the Node, Express and MongoDB services behind it.

Purchases & subscriptions

StoreKit in-app purchases, subscription tiers, lifetime unlocks and parental gates.

App Store release management

App Store Connect setup, review, versioned updates and localisation across dozens of languages.

Work on an app you already have

Debugging, performance, and new feature development inside an existing codebase.

06Shipping

Getting it approved is part of the engineering

Writing the app is half of it. The other half is bundle identifiers, entitlements, privacy declarations, subscription products, screenshots, review notes — and the rejection that comes back on a Friday. I've run that loop repeatedly.

  1. 01

    Release setup

Bundle identifiers, capabilities, entitlements, signing and the App Store Connect record.

  2. 02

    Monetisation

Subscription and one-time purchase products, restore flows, and parental gates where the age rating requires one.

  3. 03

    Store presence

Listing copy, screenshots, categories, age ratings and privacy declarations.

  4. 04

    Localisation

Up to 32 languages in a single release, including full right-to-left layout.

  5. 05

    Review & release

Submission, review responses, and the rejection that comes back on a Friday afternoon.

  6. 06

    After launch

Versioned updates, bug-fix releases, crash reporting and analytics on what people actually use.
